Who we are. RightStart LLC, a California limited liability company (“we,” “us” or “our”), operates PeerSet at peerset.org (formerly comp.rightstart.co; “the tool”). Questions or requests: help@peerset.org.

The short version. We collect only what we need to run the tool. We do not sell your information or share it for advertising. To have saved reports deleted, email help@peerset.org; we do it within 30 days. Closing your account deletes them too.

What we collect

  • Account details. Your name and email address, collected by our sign-in provider, Clerk. Clerk also handles your password, sessions and sign-in cookies. When you download a report or a data file while signed in, we also keep a record of which version of our Terms you agreed to, and when.
  • Sign in with Google. If you use it, Google gives us your name, email address and profile picture, and nothing else. We do not receive your contacts, Gmail, Drive or Calendar. We use these details only to create and secure your account. You can revoke access at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions.
  • Saved board reports. If you saved a board report with an earlier version of the tool, we keep what you entered then: your search criteria, the organization's name and EIN, the name and title of the person whose pay was being reviewed, the proposed pay, the names, board roles, votes and conflict-of-interest answers of committee members, your notes, and the peer set and statistics you selected. This is information about other people. You can download those reports; you can no longer create or change them.
  • Daily CSV count. To enforce the limit of 5 CSV downloads a day, we keep your account ID, the day and how many CSV files you downloaded that day. Only your most recent day is kept. It is deleted when you close your account.
  • Feedback. Your message, its type, the page you were on, your browser type, and your email address if you choose to give one.
  • Usage and performance data. We use Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to count page views and measure page speed: the page, referring site, approximate country, browser and device type. They do not use cookies and are designed not to identify individuals. Our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs, such as IP address and time of request.
  • Error reports. When something breaks, technical details such as the page address, the error message and your browser type are sent to us and to our error-tracking service, Sentry. We remove any pay amount you enter from page addresses before they are sent.

How we use it

To run and secure the tool and your account, show you your saved reports, answer feedback, fix bugs and see which features get used. We do not use it for advertising or profiling, and we do not make automated decisions about you.

Who else sees it

We use service providers to run the tool: Clerk (sign-in), Vercel (hosting and analytics), Neon (database), Sentry (error tracking), and Slack and Resend (to alert us to new sign-ups, feedback and errors). They handle information for us under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the tool and its users from fraud or abuse.

Cookies, tracking and “Do Not Track”

We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in (set by Clerk). We do not use advertising cookies and do not track you across other websites, so we do not respond to “Do Not Track” signals. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser details when a page loads. Apart from that, no third party collects information about your activity across websites through this tool.

Public IRS data

The compensation figures in the tool come from Form 990 filings that tax-exempt organizations file with the IRS. Federal law makes those filings public. They can name officers, directors and key employees and show their pay. We turn that public data into benchmarks and do not add information about those individuals from other sources. We do not verify the filings. If you are named in a filing and our copy does not match it, email us and we will review it. We cannot change the IRS filing itself.

How long we keep it

  • Saved board reports: until you ask us to delete them or close your account. To close your account and have your saved reports deleted, email help@peerset.org; we do it within 30 days.
  • Account details: while your account is open. Clerk handles removal of your sign-in profile when your account is deleted.
  • Acceptance records: kept after your account is closed, as a record of what was agreed.
  • Feedback: kept until we no longer need it. Ask us to delete yours at any time.
  • Analytics: Vercel uses an anonymous visitor identifier that it discards after 24 hours.
  • Backups: deleted information can remain in database backups for a short time before they expire.
  • Email and Slack copies: we also receive feedback and sign-up alerts by email and in Slack. We delete those copies on request.

Your choices

You can review or update your name and email in your account settings and download saved board reports from the Past reports page; to have them deleted, email help@peerset.org. To close your account, or to ask us to access, correct or delete anything we hold about you, email help@peerset.org. We aim to reply within 30 days. We handle these requests the same way for everyone, wherever you live.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and providers that encrypt stored data. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee the security of your information.

Children

The tool is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we delete it.

Where information is processed

The tool is run from, and intended for use in, the United States. It is not directed to people in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or elsewhere. If you use it from another country, your information is processed in the United States.

Changes

We will post any change here with a new effective date.
